R. M. Williams Longhorn Express
In my wild erratic fancy visions come to me of Clancy
Gone a-droving `down the Cooper' where the Western drovers go;
As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing,
For the drover's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know.
And the bush hath friends to meet him, and their kindly voices greet him
In the murmur of the breezes and the river on its bars,
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended,
And at night the wond'rous glory of the everlasting stars.
Extract of Banjo's poem Clancy Of the Overflow
It has been indeed an honour and a pleasure to work on the new Longhorn. In a meeting with the marketing managers and CEO's from Western Star and R.M.Williams the guys from RM told us that they wanted the truck to portray the life of this Aussie legand R.M. Williams, while still promoting the brand that is R.M.Williams and life in the Australian outbaack. After a few emails back and forward we set out to see this vision splendid become reality.
The truck arrived at PJs just 3 weeks before the 2011 Brisbane Truck Show. even though it was painted from factory there was some variation in the colour. Since we had some trim to paint, some fibreglass work on the bonnet to do in removing the badges and the indicator humps on the top of the guards. Also all the stainless trim plates, air cleaners, exhaust shrouds and ally tanks to paint we decided to give the rig a full respray and clear it off before starting the art work on the Longhorn.
The truck was then rubbed back and the artwork was started. Over the following 2 weeks some 120 hrs were put into the airbrush work on the Western Star transforming the Star into a rolling tribute to RM the man and The brand R.M. Williams. After the artwork was completed the rig was again cleared off and then polished to a deep wet shine. The result has been an overwhelming one to all those concerned, especially the guys from RM and we thank them for letting us; help them, see this vision realised. In this rolling tribute to the man and the brand.
So if your out there on the long haul and you see a mirage of riders on horse back riding out of the sunset at you. its not a vision its the LONGHORN EXPRESS. Oh and don't forget to tip your hat to RM as you pass by, you can be sure he'll almost wink back. Thanks again to all involved.
